Charleston Bound
To David Kent, a North Carolina native who frequently visited South Carolina while growing up, Charleston and South Carolina’s Low Country have always embodied the best of everything life is about. A rich cultural history, an ideal family environment, limitless outdoor activities and some of the country’s most distinctive homes—it’s a place unlike any other. David has lived permanently in Charleston since 1985. He came here upon graduation from Clemson University with a building science and construction management degree.
A New Path
In 1994, David worked as a home builder, a career he had enjoyed for many years. Because of his close connection to the real estate industry, friends and family often approached him for advice or assistance when buying real estate. While he accommodated their requests to the extent real estate law would allow, he quickly saw a unique need to fill: there were no real estate agents in Charleston, SC that worked exclusively for buyers. No agents that provided 100% buyer representation.
With his distinctive background and extensive knowledge of the real estate industry, David decided to embark on a new path. In 1995, with license in hand, David and his partner W.C. “Cece” Stricklin, opened Charleston’s first exclusive buyer’s agency. Steadfast and committed to buyer representation, this relatively new approach to the real estate business took flight. For over a decade, David and his team have been committed to providing the most comprehensive services for home buyers in the area.
David brings to his business both extensive construction-industry experience and a genuine commitment to customer service. He has worked on many land development projects throughout the Charleston area. He has acted as both the President of his local Association of Realtors as well as President of the Charleston Trident Homebuilders Association. He has also acted as a director for the National Association of Realtors. David lives in Mt. Pleasant with his wife, Minou—a local school teacher—and their two daughters, Alexandra and Hanna.
Elevating the Standards
David is also committed to further education about buyer representation and elevating the standards within the real estate profession. This is one of the reasons he was selected as Realtor of the Year for the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors in 2008. He was also asked in 2009 to help update the National Association of Realtors- Buyer Accreditation course (ABR). A course he had taken himself back in 1998 to become an Accredited Buyer Agent. Since 2008 David has served on the advisory board for the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council (REBAC) of the National Association of Realtors and inducted into the REBAC Hall of Fame in 2010.
